AUSTIN, Texas – Akala Garrett and Edrick Floréal earned Big 12 Outdoor yearly awards on Thursday afternoon the conference announced.
Garret was named the Women's Outstanding Freshman of the Year after a dominating performance in the hurdles at the conference meet. Garrett ran the sixth-fastest time in the world this season in the 400-meter hurdles with her personal-best time of 54.73 seconds. The time ranks third in the NCAA and is the second-fastest performer in UT history. Garrett set personal bests in all three 400m hurdle races she competed in this season, including her win at the Texas Relays.
